I am raised between and with 2 cultures. Born in Northern Sweden and grown up among the alps in Austria. Since I can remember I have spent lots of time north of the polar circle and I really, really love the wilderness and silence up there, as much as I love the peaks of the alps and the Austrian culture. All my work comes from these two places.
My "jewelry- design" journey started some years ago experimenting with photos mostly in Northern Sweden, Lappland. One summer I visited the childhood home of my grandmother. Its a really beautiful, old house, situated on a little hill. From there you can not just overview the village, but also the endless woods and the clear-blue river flowing by the wooden houses. I just love the atmosphere there.
Moreover the furniture in the house is adorable, lots of it my great grandfahter made by hand. Handmade furniture with patterns from the 30s, 40s to the 60s & 70s.
Unfortuantely there are so many people who inherited that house so nobody really cares or everybody cares too much about it and as it happens in many families its hard to find an agreement in what to do with it, so its nearly abandoned. I got so sad by seeing that beautiful furniture all by itself, showing their beauty to nobody, so I wanted to do something about it. Thats when my idea for the jewelry line "furniture" was born. I wanted to keep the design of this home interior alive. I wanted to give it a meaning again and show it to people. Make it loved. So I made photos of the different patterns in the house and turned them into jewelry. I love story telling, that old way of carrying on news to other people. The way Sami people used to tell stories on cold evenings around a fire place. But also my grand mother loved stories. She had a never ending repertoire of tales and fairy tales, that she used to tell us. Unfortunately I cant remember even half of them, because I guess we are not used to remember stories in the same way as people used to do in further times. But I think its such a wonderful way to connect with each other and with events or even things, give them a meaning and let them live in our minds and hearts. My jewelry pieces are small story tellers. They can´t speak, but they tell their stories by their history & their transformation from one state of being to another. It´s story- telling in handicraft way.
